Cleaning roof tiles without a pressure washer
- Excess moss is removed with the moss scraper.
- The roof is sprayed with the Roof Shampoo quick cleaner or Algae Remover.
- The product is applied liberally. It should not rain during this exposure time. The roof does not need to be dry.
- Spraying can be repeated after a few minutes on the most stubbornly soiled areas to penetrate deeper.
- Immediately after the treatment the effect is significant as can be seen in the photos.
- The treatment can be repeated (for stubborn dirt) at intervals of 7 weeks to 1 year.

- The roof is treated with our shampoo.
- After applying the shampoo, the roof is sprayed down with a high-pressure cleaner.
- Afterwards, the roof is post-treated to remove the last traces of atmospheric pollution.

Is high pressure cleaning harmful?
Did you know that?
Pressure washers have been around for over a century. Nilfisk has been producing them since the 80s, Kärcher since 1950, and DiBO since 1978. That's over 150 years of combined experience in high-pressure technology. With these machines proven over so many years, you can be confident they're safe for your roof – provided you use the right technology.
🎯 This is what we learned in 12 years (and now for free)
● Before 1988: Ceramic/fired roof tiles from before 1988 are often porous. First, inspect for water damage.
● Pressure is not the enemy: Roof tiles can't be destroyed by a 130-bar water jet. What is harmful? Letting moss and algae grow.
● High pressure only? Without pretreatment with Dakshampoo®, it barely cleans. Too much pressure damages the surface without cleaning it completely.
● Combination wins: Water + chemicals = deeper cleaning with less water power. Separately, they work less effectively.
● Coating requires pressure: Without high pressure and Dakshampoo®, coating or impregnation is not possible. Foaming or spraying alone is insufficient.
● Foaming is endless: Foaming or spraying alone never cleanses down to the capillaries. Repetition is (literally) endless.
● High pressure downplayed? By people inexperienced or afraid of heights. Deep cleaning is more intensive, difficult, and safe.
Why clean (and protect) your roof?
Roof tiles are strong and effective roofing for homes and commercial buildings. Waterproof, somewhat insulating, charming and, certainly compared to thatched roofs, relatively low-maintenance and affordable. However, roof tiles do require maintenance.
The roof tile is a natural product. Moss, algae and birds feel at home on it and use it as a permanent residence and/or toilet. Over time, this can weaken the roof tile and make it more brittle. The roof tile discolours and dries out due to damage to the glaze layer. This can be prevented by cleaning the roof regularly. For a longer lasting result and protection, you can impregnate or coat the roof with a variety of colours.
