Material Description:
DAKSHAMPOO® Roof Coating Adhesion Primer is a solvent-free, colorless 1-component adhesive based on epoxy resin, especially for subsequent coating with DAKSHAMPOO® roof paints.
Use purpose:
The roof coating adhesion primer is a water-dilutable one-pack binder for natural baked and engobed roof tiles and other critical substrates in the roof area. Also suitable for non-absorbent mineral-based roof tiles.
lic surfaces indoors and outdoors. Do not use on roof surfaces with standing water.
Features:
A roof coating adhesion primer with excellent adhesion properties. Quick drying. Water dilutable, environmentally friendly and low odor. Universally overpaintable with DAKSHAMPOO® emulsion paints.
Binder:
Epoxy resin dispersion
Specific gravity:
approx. 1.05 g/cm3
Color:
colorless
Package Contents:
5 kg and 15 kg
Substrate Preparation:
The existing roof surfaces should be prepared so that they are firm and stable, clean, dry and free of vegetation, weather, grease, silicone and oxide layers. The roof surfaces are cleaned of algae, lichen, moss and other dirt with a high-pressure cleaner; for greasy dirt (soot) with superheated steam. Cleaning should be carried out in the direction of the drain with a spray distance of approx. 10 cm and a pressure of at least 160 bar. Or use the DAKSHAMPOO® quick cleaner with a high-pressure sprayer with up to 130 bar water pressure.
Processing:
DAKSHAMPOO® Roof coating adhesion primer is ready to use, but can be slightly diluted with water to achieve the optimum processing viscosity.
Brush and roller application:
Apply undiluted.
Airless spray application:
To set the optimum spray viscosity, DAKSHAMPOO® Roof coating adhesive primer can be diluted with water up to a maximum of 10%. Airless spray pressure approx. 150 bar, nozzle bore approx. 0.021″, spray angle 30 – 50°, distance approx. 40 – 50 cm. Piston pumps such as GRACO UltraMax devices with a hose length of up to 40 m can be used. Due to the large number of different substrates and substrate properties, we recommend carrying out a trial coat to check adhesion before coating
Processing conditions:
Do not process air and object temperatures below +8°C. Do not apply airless in strong winds. At high object temperatures (above 40°C) apply DAKSHAMPOO Roof coating adhesive primer diluted with approx. 10% water; If necessary, moisten the surface beforehand. Do not apply during rain or expected rain.
Consumption:
Laboratory values: Approx. 100 – 125 g/m² or 8 – 10 m²/kg per coat on smooth surfaces. The consumption figures of the roof coating adhesive primer are guide values which may increase due to surface roughness and structure as well as profile waves. Due to the different structural substrates, the exact consumption quantities must be determined when painting or rolling and when spraying on the object.
Practice values:
Experience shows that for an average profiled and textured roof surface, depending on the application method, a total material consumption of approx. 150 – 200 g/m2 roof coating adhesive primer can be estimated.
Drying times:
At +20° C and 65% humidity, it is repaintable after about 4 hours. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend these times. DAKSHAMPOO® roof coating adhesive primer should not be exposed to weather for long periods of time; the overhaul with DAKSHAMPOO® roof coatings should therefore be carried out quickly.
Device cleaning:
Clean brushes and rollers with water immediately after use. Clean Airless devices thoroughly with water.
Retention:
Store in a cool but frost-free place. Unopened containers have a shelf life of approx. 1 year. However, opened containers should be processed as soon as possible. EU limit value for the product: (Cat. A/g): 50 g/l (2007) [30 g/l (2010)] This product contains a maximum of 29 g/l VOC

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I use the primer?
For baked or glazed roof tiles because in most cases our roof coating does not adhere optimally to this type of roofing. The primer is not intended for concrete roofing.
Can I come and pick up the primer?
You cannot pick up the products from us. The products are always shipped directly from the factory.
Do you have a step-by-step plan for applying primer to my roof?
- First spray the surface with Roof Shampoo Quick Cleaner, one of our roof cleaning products. ( A gentle cleaning where up to 130 bar water pressure is sufficient. The quick cleaner is also used in façade cleaning).
- Then hose off with a pressure washer with 130 bar water pressure.
- After rinsing with water, spray again with Roof Shampoo Quick Cleaner.
- Rinse the surface with water. The surface must be clean (free of algae, grease and dust) and dry.
- Apply tile primer.
Do you have any tips I should think about?
- Apply in advance during the warmer period from April to October.
- Cover skylights and dormers in advance with “Kip Self-Adhesive Protective Film – 313 Green”.
- Cover the sides of solar panels in advance with “Masking Tape Yellow 48 mm”.
Is a primer treatment durable?
The treatment is very durable, however, it should be performed in a proper way with the right products under the right weather conditions.
Someone in construction says it’s a waste of money. How can that be?
One of the causes is because a lot of substandard work is delivered by companies that are not specialized enough or do not use the best resources, often it is added without any training.
Can roof tile primer lose its effectiveness after a few years?
In case it is applied in the right way, with right material under the right weather conditions, it is impossible that the action of the roof tile primer will stop by itself.
Isn’t impregnating my roof tiles more durable than roof coating?
After impregnation, dirt and mosses can unfortunately re-establish themselves between your roof tiles. Impregnating ceramic roof tiles or concrete roof tiles that still have the original coating on them is useless because the roof tile primer cannot penetrate there. Also not unimportant is that after impregnation, in connection with the adhesion, you cannot have your roof coated in any color for at least 10 years. Impregnating a worn roof with open pores works best, the downside is that your tiles will remain fragile and still look worn.
Can I coat my roof myself? coat my roof myself?
Coating your roof is easy to do yourself if the accessibility is good. It is important to read the information on this page carefully.
How many layers of liquid roof tile primer to apply?
Apply in one opaque layer.
The sides of the roof tiles along the windrows.
It is possible to use liquid roof tile primer in conjunction with a paint roller.
Masking or not masking?
Instead of taping, one can also choose to shield things with a piece of cardboard of, say, 60×40 cm. A roller and brush can also be used near elements that need to be kept clean. The safest way is to tape off and use an exterior grade tape.
What are the benefits of coating my roof yourself?
- much cheaper to purchase the product yourself than to outsource
- everything you do yourself goes exactly as you want it to
- by coating you do not have to clean as much every year
- perform at your own pace
