Always use the recommended amount of roof coating per square meter for the most durable result. Make sure to thoroughly disinfect the roof first with the Roof Shampoo Quick Cleaner.
Standard roof coating in matt, semi-gloss and high-gloss: The Dakshampoo roof coating is a permeable, rainproof, weatherproof and fast-drying dispersion paint based on 100% pure acrylate with passive film preservation against algae and fungal attack. It is easy to apply with a brush, roller or airless spray method. The advantage of the matt coating is that it gives a more even result on rough surfaces.
Nano-Deluxe semi-gloss roof coating: It is a roof coating with innovative nanotechnology and passive film preservation against algae and fungal attack. Nanostructured metal oxide particles (ZnO) offer optimum UV protection and are long-term stable and effective due to their inorganic, insoluble properties. The Dakshampoo Nano-Deluxe roof coating is, just like the standard version, easy to apply with a brush, roller or airless spray method.
Purpose of use
Water-dilutable dispersion coating for the renovation of weathered, sloping roof surfaces made of concrete roof tiles, clay roof tiles, bitumen roof shingles and fibre cement panels. Also ideal for colour-matching cut edges or damage to roof tiles and accessories made of aluminium, lead, copper, zinc, wood, plaster and hard PVC.
Do not use on roofs with standing water. Siliconized roof tiles are not suitable for coating with DAKSHAMPOO roof paints.
Features
As a pure acrylic coating it is particularly resistant to attack of the film surface by the ultraviolet component of sunlight; therefore long-lasting chalking, gloss and colour fastness. Water-dilutable, environmentally friendly and low-odour. Weatherproof according to VOB, diffusion-open, alkali-resistant and extremely resistant to aggressive environmental influences.
Binder:
Pure acrylic dispersion
Specific weight:
approx. 1,2 g/cm3 (depending on the colour)
Shades
The colour range is coordinated with the corporate colours of the leading manufacturers of concrete roof tiles, bitumen roof shingles, fibre cement panels and clay roof tiles:
Classic red, brick red -new-, natural red, red brown, umbra brown, dark brown, slate grey, old colours, anthracite, black, emerald green and midnight blue.
Available in most roof tile colours offered by the roof tile industry with a minimum order quantity from 200 kg per colour shade with a delivery time of 10-14 days extra. An individual mixing of colour shades according to sample tiles as a colour template is possible.
Surface preparation
The existing roof surfaces must be prepared in such a way that they are firm and stable, clean and free from vegetation, weather influences, grease, silicone and oxide layers.
The roof surfaces are cleaned of algae, lichens, moss and other dirt with a high-pressure cleaner; for greasy dirt (soot) with overheated steam. The cleaning should be carried out in the direction of the drain with a spray distance of approx. 10 cm and a pressure of at least 130 bar.
Highly absorbent or abrasive roof surfaces, such as weathered concrete roof tiles and uncoated fibre cement panels, are primed before coating with the same roof coating diluted 1:2 with water (one part roof coating and two parts water). Consumption depending on the absorbency of the substrate approx. 100 – 200 ml/m2.
For naturally baked and committed clay roof tiles, a careful adhesion test must be carried out before coating and, if necessary, primed with the ROOF SHAMPOO primer for roof tiles. Glazed roof tiles must also be primed before coating.
Non-ferrous metals must be professionally degreased and freed from oxide layers (scrub with perlon fleece, hand pads and diluted ammonia water with the addition of a few drops of Pril).
Like metal surfaces, plastics must be cleaned and roughened by rubbing away any residual lubricant.
Due to the wide variety of substrates and substrate properties – especially with newer roof tiles and clay tiles with refined surfaces – we recommend performing a test coat to check adhesion before coating.
The processing
Stir the DAKSHAMPOO roof coating well before use. The paint is ready to use, but can be diluted slightly with water to set the optimum processing viscosity.
The coating of the roof surfaces must be carried out in two steps:
Spread and roll application:
Base coat: Apply diluted with max. 5% water.
Topcoat: apply undiluted.
Airless spray application:
To set the optimum spray viscosity, the DAKSHAMPOO roof coating can be diluted with water up to a maximum of 5% for both the base coat and the top coat.
Airless spray pressure approx. 150 bar, nozzle bore approx. 0.021″ – 0.023″, spray angle 30 – 50°, distance approx. 40 – 50 cm.
Piston pumps such as Airlessco devices with a hose length of up to 40 m.
The usage
approx. 185 ml/m² or 5,5 m²/l per coat on a smooth surface
approx. 225 g/m² or 4,5 m²/kg per layer on a smooth surface
The consumption data are guideline values that can increase due to surface roughness and structure as well as profile waves. Exact consumption quantities must be determined due to the different structured substrates, both when brushing or rolling, and when spraying on the object.
Practical values:
Experience has shown that a total of approx. 600 – 800 g/m2 (approx. 300 – 400 g/m2 per work step) material consumption can be estimated for an average profiled and structured roof surface, depending on the application method.
Processing temperature
Do not use below +8° C and above 35° C air and object temperature. Do not apply airless in strong winds.
Do not use in (expected) rain, direct sunlight, fog or high humidity (>80%).
Drying times
At +20° C and 65% humidity:
surface dry: after 3 – 4 hours
Can be painted over: after 4 – 6 hours
rainproof: after 24 hours
completely dried + loadable: after 3 days
Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend these times.
Cleaning appliances
Clean brush and roller with water immediately after use. Clean airless devices thoroughly with water.
Storage
Store cool but frost-free. Unopened packages have a shelf life of approx. 1 year. Opened containers, on the other hand, should be processed as soon as possible.

FAQ roof coating
How long does the coating last on the roof?
The lifespan is generally longer than the factory coating on new roof tiles. The coating usually lasts +15 years. New concrete roof tiles with a coating often show wear down to the concrete within 5 years. The amount applied, external influences and compliance with the cleaning protocol determine the lifespan of the coating. Green deposits and lichens affect the surface of the coating and must be removed in time. It is usually appropriate to carry out the treatment every 15 years.
I need the coating tomorrow, do you have it in stock and can I pick it up?
This is possible in consultation.
Matt, semi-gloss or high-gloss; What is better against green deposits?
Both matt, semi-gloss and high-gloss are comparable in repelling green deposits and both contain an active anti-algae component. Our best roof coating against green deposits is the Nano Deluxe roof coating, which contains an extra Nano technological component against green deposits. Matt and semi-gloss give the most even result on weathered concrete roof tiles. High-gloss roof coating is less suitable for weathered concrete roof tiles because it is more difficult to get an even result. We recommend using high-gloss preferably on smooth and less porous surfaces such as baked and ceramic roof tiles. Please note that every coating does not remain free of green deposits by itself. In humid conditions such as in the Netherlands and mainly on the shadow sides, green deposits usually grow quickly. To keep roof tiles clean of green deposits, a roof must be treated annually with an algaecide.
Do you have a step-by-step plan available for coating my roof?
- First spray the surface with the Roof Shampoo quick cleaner.
- Then rinse with a high-pressure cleaner.
- After rinsing with water, spray again with the Roof Shampoo quick cleaner.
- Rinse the roof with water. The surface must be clean (free of algae, grease and dust) and dry.
- Apply the 1st layer of roof coating “base coat” diluted with max. 5% water.
- For ceramic or baked clay roof tiles, test after three days whether the adhesion is good enough. If the adhesion is not good, first apply the Roof Shampoo Primer for roof tiles.
- 2nd layer roof coating “topcoat” undiluted. (In case of airless spray application, the 2nd layer may be diluted with a maximum of 5% water)
Do you have any other tips that I should keep in mind?
- Application by brush, roller or spray.
- Do not use at temperatures below 8 degrees Celsius.
- Dried coating can be removed in advance with “HG” sticker remover.
- For convenience, rent an airless sprayer at a reasonable price.
- Order the recommended amount and use it up. First test your technique / consumption ratio. Often too little coating is applied and that does not benefit the lifespan. Returning is not an option even unopened after 14 days.
- How do I measure my roof to determine the number of square meters?
First measure the 2nd roof tile from the bottom and note the dimensions. Then count the number of roof tiles in height and width and multiply it. An example: roof tile is 30 wide and 32 high. The roof is 14 roof tiles high with a ridge tile, we count this as half a roof tile. The roof is 54 roof tiles wide. Calculation example roof height: 14.5 x 0.32 = 4.64 m1 Calculation example roof width: 54 x 0.30 = 16.2 m1 Total = 16.2 x 4.64 = 75 m2. Is the other side of the roof the same? Then the roof is 2 x 75 m2 = 150 m2. The sides of the roof tiles along the wind feathers are approximately 0.08 m2 each. In this case 4x 14.5 = 58*0.08= 4.64 m2
I want to request a quote to have the roof coating treatment carried out. How does that work?
A roof coating treatment involves a lot. In order to make a quote/price indication, certain information is needed to determine the plan of approach, estimate man hours, determine which resources are needed such as a cherry picker or scaffolding and determine which roof coating treatment suits your needs. In some cases, a roof coating treatment is not possible. Below are the points that are important when making a price indication or quote for roof coating treatments.
● Clear view of the roof all around in terms of accessibility, estimate of the amount of work.
● Are there algae, moss and lichen present? To what extent?
● What year was the house built? How old are the roof tiles?
● Are they ceramic or concrete roof tiles or corrugated sheets?
● How many spare roof tiles do you have?
● What is the condition of the roof boarding and battens? Are they dry?
● Have there been any leaks?
● Have the roof tiles been impregnated in the past?
● Which roof coating treatment do you prefer? The Standard or Premium treatment (extra layer thickness for extra lifespan and appearance with very porous roof tiles)
● What is the address of the property in terms of travel times?
● Is there a water and electricity connection available?
What should I consider when comparing quotes for coating my roof tiles?
When comparing quotes, the following factors generally play an important role, such as: quality of the coating to be used, degree of precision in finishing, even or patchy result, whether it is an experienced professional, amount of material per m2 and the warranty conditions.
The price of one roof coating treatment provider and another can differ by up to 200%, how does this work?
The quality of one provider and another is usually very far apart. There are no official training courses for this profession and everyone does it in their own way. The lifespan of roof coating treatments therefore also varies very extremely between 1-30 years. An excellent roof coating treatment is very labor-intensive and the materials expensive. These two things can of course be filled in very differently. The professional is extremely decisive for the final result. In many cases, a homeowner will therefore be better off coating his roof himself to be on the safe side so that there will certainly be no saving on the quality and quantity of material. It can also be considered to purchase the material yourself and hire someone else to first clean the roof and then apply the coating. It is generally a bad idea to apply too little roof coating because it continuously decreases a microscopic amount of thickness due to exposure to external influences. The method of cleaning is also very decisive for the lifespan of a roof coating treatment.
Is a roof coating treatment sustainable?
The treatment is very durable, but it must be carried out correctly with the right products under the right weather conditions.
Someone from construction says it's a waste of money. How can that be?
One of the reasons is that a lot of substandard work is delivered by companies that are not specialized in roof coating, usually it is done on the side. Another reason could be that the construction world misses out on large orders due to roof coating treatments; delivering new roof tiles, insulating, replacing battens, repairs to gutters etc.
Can the coating come off after a few years?
If it is applied correctly, with the right material under the right weather conditions, it is impossible for the roof coating to come loose by itself. We have never experienced this with our customers and we return to some customers after years for maintenance to keep it clean. We even find that our roof coating lasts longer in many cases than the coating of new roof tiles.
Isn't impregnating my roof tiles more sustainable?
After impregnation, dirt and moss can unfortunately nestle between your roof tiles again. Impregnating ceramic roof tiles or concrete roof tiles that still have the original coating is pointless because the impregnating agent cannot penetrate there. Also not unimportant is that after impregnation, due to the adhesion, you cannot have your roof coated in a color for at least 10 years. Impregnating a worn roof with open pores works best, the disadvantage is that your roof tiles remain fragile and still look worn.
Isn't it cheaper to have new roof tiles installed?
This question is often asked by homeowners who have replaced their own roof tiles on their house and then only charge the costs of purchasing the roof tiles. In case one also carries out the roof coating treatment themselves and only charges the costs of the coating and roof shampoo, a roof coating treatment will always be cheaper.
Can I also coat my roof myself?
Coating roof tiles is certainly doable yourself. It is better not to start with a spraying machine right away, because without the necessary knowledge and skills, it is very difficult to achieve an even result. But with a roller and a brush, little can go wrong. Before you can start coating the roof tiles, it is important that the roof has been exceptionally cleaned. There should be no more algae, lichens or bits of moss present. However, this is not always easy to see. That is why it is important to first treat the roof with the Roof Shampoo quick cleaner and then rinse it with water. This way you can be sure that the roof is clean deep into the pores and that no dirt can emerge under the coating.
With paint roller, brush or sprayer?
The roof coating of Dakshampoo can be sprayed but also applied with a paint roller or brush. For an even result, we advise the do-it-yourselfer to use a paint roller and brush. For the do-it-yourselfer, time plays a lesser role, but the result is very important. A professional can hardly be competitive in terms of price by working with a brush or paint roller because this takes much more time, and it is advisable to purchase an airless paint sprayer.
Where can I rent an airless sprayer?
For a one-time job it is advisable to rent an airless sprayer. You might try this for example: www.pomp-specialist.eu | www.boels.com | www.stucwerkrijnmondverhuur.nl | www.oostveenmachinetechniek.nl | www.schoonewiltechniek.nl. When renting, consider a hose length of 30 meters and spray nozzle 311 for very fine and precise work, a 515 for making meters and a lot of control and finally for making as many meters as possible the 521. Each nozzle also has a different filter so that the nozzle does not get clogged all the time. When using less powerful machines, it is advisable to dilute the coating with more water and spray in multiple layers.
Which airless sprayer do I need?
In theory, the Airlessco LP955 and machines with similar capacities are suitable for our roof coatings. We use a previous model ourselves, namely the Airlessco LP700. However, we have found that some of our customers could get by with a light machine such as the “MAGNUM Graco A45”. We also hear good experiences about the GRACO machines.
How many days do I need a sprayer?
It is recommended to keep 1 layer per day. Sometimes a 3rd layer is needed so you will soon reach the weekly price.
Should I use a primer or not?
When coating concrete roof tiles with the roof coating from Dakshampoo, no primer is needed for adhesion. This roof coating adheres excellently to concrete roof tiles. With ceramic roof tiles, this is different and there may be problems with adhesion. The primer from Dakshampoo is specially tailored to our roof coating. And can also be easily applied with a roller and brush.
How can I reach everywhere on the roof?
To reach everywhere on the roof, you can slide roof tiles and place your feet in them. This works particularly well with concrete roof tiles. Another option is to place a ladder on the roof and slide it further and further. In general, it is possible to coat three columns per row from the same foot height.
How many layers of roof coating should I apply?
The coating should be applied in two layers. So after the entire row of roof tiles has been coated well, let it dry first. The drying time can be 10 minutes in good weather, but in cold temperatures it can take days on the shady side. When the first layer is dry, you can immediately start from the beginning with applying the second layer with your roller and a brush.
The sides along the wind feathers.
With a ladder with spacer it is possible to paint the sides of the roof tiles along the wind feathers. In some cases this can also be done perfectly well from the roof.
To mask or not to mask?
Masking with tape is a time-consuming job. Another disadvantage is that it sometimes gets stuck or damages the surface. We prefer a small brush if precise work is required. Lead sheets can also be folded over.
What are the advantages of coating my roof tiles myself?
- much cheaper to coat the roof yourself
- cleaning the gutter the roof can be made in the color of your choice
- Cleaning the gutter significantly extends the life of the roof
- gutter cleaning at your own pace

Benefits:
- Sticks to the roof.
- Doesn't run straight into the gutter.
- 75% fewer resources required.
Instruction:
- Add the “EcoThickener”.
- Spray the thickened agent with a pressure pump onto the roof. Or spray the agent with a foam lance onto the roof/facade.
- After a two-week exposure period, rinse with a high-pressure cleaner and impregnate or simply leave it and repeat annually.
Is high pressure cleaning harmful?
Read answer »
Answer:
No, by pre-treating it and spraying it with appropriate water pressure it does not have to be harmful. On a microscopic level it more or less affects the substrate but it is more harmful to leave the dirt for years. It is best to thoroughly clean the roof, facade or terrace once and impregnate it permanently so that it never has to be sprayed with a high-pressure cleaner again. Annual high-pressure cleaning should be avoided.
Things to note:
- Pre-treat with our cleaning products so that less water pressure is required.
- Using the correct pressure washer/lance/nozzle.
- Do not hold the nozzle too close.
- Do not focus on the same surface for too long.
- Spray diagonally from top to bottom.
- Avoid slots around skylights.
- Do not use a dirt cutter on facades/masonry.
- Determine the possibility of moisture penetration by inspecting the roof boarding. (Water under the roof tiles will dry up again by itself.)
Benefits:
- Damage caused by algae, moss and lichens is stopped immediately.
- Instant 100% clean result.
- Suitable for durable impregnation / coating.
- Makes defects in roof tiles visible so that they can be replaced/repaired.
Cons:
- Chance of one-time water under the roof tiles if the roof boarding or roof tiles are not waterproof. Water under the roof tiles usually dries up quickly. With good roof boarding, the water is drained into the gutter.
What kind of pressure washer do I need?
